Extravaganza Art Catalogue

Extravaganza – Exhibition, curated from the Treger Saint Silvestre Outsider Art Collection, by Antonia Gaeta presents works by classic artists of outsider art, such as Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern (1892-1982) and Agatha Wojciechowsky (1896-1986), from American folk art, including pieces by Mose Tolliver (1920-1986), as well as recent artists on the fringes of the outsider art movement, like Marilena Pelosi (1957) and Derrick Alexis Coard (1981-2017), among others.

The exhibition is enveloped in a subtle sense of surprise, as the works do not adhere to a single genre, geographical area, or historical period. The artists are sometimes anonymous, relatively unknown, or working under pseudonyms, often lacking formal artistic or literary training. Nevertheless, they manage to convey a deep sense of spiritual emotion and creativity.

Regarding the editorial design, in the section showcasing the artworks, the arrangement of the works on the wall is approached organically, with a sequence of double pages reproducing photographs of the artworks on the walls. The captions have been carefully placed alongside these artworks.

In the rest of the book, in contrast to this organic delicacy, the typography adopts a bold and confident composition. The title, in uppercase letters, unfolds from the cover to the pages and from the pages to the back cover, evoking the sense of surprise desired by the curator for the exhibition.
