Away from the hustle and bustle of a colorful neon city, the abode features colorless black, gray and white. It is a fortress to soothe, nurture and restore body and mind. As the backdrop, the subdued environment allows the movements of occupants to add richness to the space, highlighting the human-centered design. In the original layout, poor traffic flow and asymmetrical partitions led to cramped and cluttered public areas. After re-examining the needs of the occupants, the partition walls are removed to open up the public area, while the dull corridor leading to the private area is integrated with available square footage to maximize the utility and efficiency of the space.
Upon opening the door, the ceiling and the floor are laid out in different curvatures, erasing the rigid barriers. The soft curves contrast with the fine-woven iron screen. Without glass inlay, the screen brings a sense of transparency and adds tension to the scene.
After removing the original TV wall, a black swivel TV stand provides a flexible viewing angle. The multifunctional area at the back is equipped with a sliding door to offer light as well as maintaining the independence of the area. The wall features faux fair-faced concrete finishes, and the hand-applied textures add a sense of disorder to the well-organized space.
The dining table is combined with the kitchen island, making meal preparation more efficient and easier. The kitchen island cleverly hides the pipes. After opening up the enclosed kitchen, the space is visually expanded. The continuous cabinets provide a space to store appliances and maintain a sense of visual simplicity. To bring a touch of light into a dim kitchen area, a stone pattern is added to the middle section of the kitchenware. Its shiny surface brings shimmering sophistication and glitzy glamour, offsetting the feelings of melancholy brought by dull and dark colors.
