Tri-o, an interactive art installation, brings vibrant color compositions through three rotatable glass panels. Situated on bustling South Allen Street in State College, Pennsylvania, this streetscape design repurposes the existing sidewalk and parking spaces. It promotes social activities and enhances the walkability of the neighborhood.
Inspired by the natural decomposition of light, the design features three glass panels, each representing a primary color: cyan, magenta, and yellow. As the panels rotate to different angles, the three primary colors can overlap to form various hues. People use their bodies to push and rotate the installation, set it at any angle, and explore the unique color and shape intersection.
Through these transparent glass panels, people can perceive a different world of colors, evoking various emotions and sensations. Color theory, or chromotherapy, demonstrates how colors can effectively alleviate stress and enhance our mental, emotional, and physical well-being, particularly beneficial for college students.
Additionally, this installation fosters participation, creativity, and interaction between people. Instead of appreciating from a distance, you can engage your body to make unique color patterns. The interactive panel and the bench together form a social space, fostering communication and bringing people closer with shared and memorable experiences.
