Steep Light

The site is an old apartment. The owner, a doctor, places great emphasis on home safety, particularly concerning the environment for raising children and implementing health protocols upon returning home. Based on these considerations, the design team aimed to enhance the owner’s desired quality of life through interior design while delving into the family’s preferred elements. The project draws inspiration from the functionality of Scandinavian style, blending the elegance of American design with the simplicity of Japanese aesthetics to balance functionality and beauty, meeting the owner's vision for their lifestyle.
-Functional Cabinetry: Upon entering, one is immediately greeted by cabinetry designed along the wall, which integrates essential functions such as display, storage, cleanliness, and softening flow. It also serves as one of the core areas that bring the family together. As soon as one enters, items can be conveniently placed in the storage cabinet on the left. Continuing along the countertop, there is a handwashing area. Given the owner's profession and heightened concern about bacteria and viruses, ensuring clean hands allows for peace of mind when embracing family members. On regular days, the expansive countertop also facilitates everyday activities like brewing coffee or enjoying a drink, adding ease and fluidity to these routines.
-Parent-Child Interaction Space: Extending from the cabinetry, the design team sequentially demarcated the dining room, living room, and balcony within the open plan. Removing the TV wall simplifies the wall structure, reducing complexity. Children can use the dining area for reading and writing, while adults can engage in activities in other areas. The interior remains unobstructed, avoiding the need to compromise on storage that would result in excessive cabinet edges.
