Xikangyun Hospital, located near the Yuehu scenic area in Ningbo, is the first urban cloud hospital platform in China. Adhering to the principle of "restoring the old as it was", the project involves the meticulous restoration of a historical building from the Republican period. The building, which features a traditional three-progress courtyard layout, underwent a careful restoration process. The original wooden structure was repaired, and modern frameworks that had been added during previous rentals were removed. This restoration reintroduced natural light and ventilation, revitalizing the interior spaces and reconnecting them with the surrounding courtyards.
The design team carefully analyzed the relationship between the building, sunlight, and the unique requirements of the cloud hospital to optimize the layout of functional areas. Significant improvements were made to enhance brightness, insulation, and soundproofing within the building. In certain areas, suspended ceilings were installed to discreetly conceal air conditioning units, while decorative finishes preserved the integrity of the original wooden roof. The historical elements, including blue bricks and rough stone, were skillfully integrated with new partition walls, creating a seamless blend of old and new. The bluestone floor, with its subtle variations in color, evokes the feel of a traditional Chinese landscape painting.
In terms of lighting, a combination of point sources and soft strip lights was employed to meet both functional needs and highlight the wooden roof structure, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The interior art and decorations follow the theme of "life and nature, time and space," incorporating original art installations and curated works that convey warmth, energy, and the unique corporate culture of the hospital.
This project exemplifies a deep respect for historical architecture while addressing the evolving needs of modern healthcare spaces. Xikangyun Hospital has become a pioneering example of the fusion of culture, healthcare, and technological innovation.
