In the historical district of Chiayi, Taiwan, surrounded by numerous ancient monuments, stands the residence of the late artist Lin Guozhi. Through meticulous restoration and transformation by the foundation, architects, and interior designers, this home has been converted into a public art museum, aptly named "From Everyday to Artistic," which beautifully integrates architectural conservation with modern design.

The interior layout is divided into two thematic areas—white and dark. The white zone, adjacent to the street, symbolizes "everyday life," displaying the artist’s biography, foundation details, manuscripts, and a reimagined workspace with his painting tools. The dark zone serves as the "Gallery Hall," perfectly suited for thematic exhibitions.

Originally, the building posed several challenges due to its cramped and uneven layout, including narrow staircases and varying floor levels. These were creatively overcome by redesigning the internal pathways to mimic an ascent up a mountain, gently rising through the building with a wooden, arc-shaped staircase enhancing the indoor lighting.

A notable feature is the rooftop cabin, crafted in collaboration with a master Japanese carpenter using traditional Japanese woodworking techniques. This not only adds a cultural texture to the building but also highlights the artist’s backstory, enriching the entire space.

Additionally, the structure has undergone seismic reinforcement to improve safety, removing the narrow staircases and introducing a redesigned flow suitable for a gallery setting. The integration of lightweight wooden constructions not only respects but also accentuates the artist's rustic painting style, transforming the museum itself into a canvas beneath his artworks.

This innovative use of space is expected to provide a continuum of artistic engagement from the partially concealed display window at the entrance to the immersive exhibition spaces and the scenic rooftop. This not only preserves the artist’s legacy but also promotes local arts and culture, offering visitors a poignant blend of history, art, and architecture.
