The Candleholder_01 is a modular structure that is composed out of 3-piece steel system: core + base + petal top for the candle and the chamotte hand rolled spheres. The design evolved from the research of the candleholders used within the medieval period and research on the role of the fire as the main element and light source of the household. The design focuses on the tactility and texture of charcoal. The hand rolled ceramic spheres are covered with engobe, which after being fired creates a coal like texture. The opening for the candle gradually narrows down, making it suitable for multiple candle sizes. The 110 cm candleholder becomes an artefact that is both utilitarian and decorative, becoming a vocal point of the surrounding space.
