El Departamento has successfully brought to life the first optical boutique of PJ.Lobster in Barcelona's Born district. This space signifies PJ.Lobster's current maturity and a strategic move into the visual healthcare sector. The careful redesign carried out by the studio has marked the beginning of a new generation of boutique optical stores that PJ.Lobster is already opening in different locations under the creative direction of El Departamento.
Inspired by the documentary 'Powers of Ten' by Charles and Ray Eames, El Departamento adopted the concept of "From macro to micro" in the interior design of the compact 40m2 space. This approach emphasizes the different scales of matter, resulting in a clinical and sophisticated ambiance that highlights the brand's technical expertise and care.
Delving into the textures and grain sizes of matter, El Departamento identified two contrasting yet harmonious concepts: Texturized Minimalism vs. Raw High-Tech. The optical boutique combines a raw and minimalist aesthetic with a rich texture palette, creating a space that plays with contrasts between hard and soft, rough and velvety. Display shelves boldly showcase eyewear, while a central, rounded piece of furniture dominates the main space, housing the waiting area and a dynamic cabinet that offers privacy for the technical and sophisticated side of the brand.
The materiality of the space is raw and striking, featuring prominent irregular stucco as a focal point, softened by a soothing green color. Stainless steel, microcement flooring, vegan leather, and monochrome finishes contribute to the memorable atmosphere. El Departamento's design focuses on zoning, creating distinct areas for individual customer service, seamlessly blending microcement and carpeted floors for a neat and cozy ambiance.
PJ.Lobster's high-tech identity is evident in product displays, bespoke furniture, technical equipment for visual examinations, and custom lighting. Additionally, the space offers a panoramic view of the cathedral of Santa Maria del Mar, enhancing the overall unique and engaging atmosphere. In summary, El Departamento's design for the new PJ.Lobster optical boutique reflects the brand's evolution and commitment to providing a comprehensive and engaging optical experience.
