Solitude in Motion

"Solitude in Motion" is a 2023 dance showcase produced by The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance, where dancers in their second year at California Institute of the Arts present self-choreographed solos. I was commissioned to create a poster advertising the event, with the freedom of making my own design decisions that met the client’s needs.



This poster symbolizes the fusion of artistic expression and functionality. I was influenced by the aesthetics of psychedelia and surrealism and wanted the design to capture “solitude,” the title, and the fundamental theme of the event. Each element serves a dual purpose of captivating attention and conveying the underlying message that this recital is all about solo dance.



Ultimately, the poster serves as a precursor to the dance recital, offering a provoking glimpse into the unique experience that awaits the audience. It seeks to create anticipation, promising an evening of outstanding talent, and emotional resonance. The poster transcends its role as a promotional tool; it serves as a beacon of creativity within the lively landscape of Los Angeles’ artistic scene.
