Green wall is a green technology to plant green plants vertically on the building wall. This project is located in the Central Taiwan Science Park and is a green curtain planning project for a technology factory building complex. It is hoped that the building exterior will be designed with a forward-looking vertical garden to cope with global warming and climate change, to purify the air quality, improve the urban heat island effect, and increase the Visible Green Index of the park, creating a green generation in the Science Park. The green generation of the Science Park. In addition, replacing traditional curtain walls with planting walls creates a greener environment, increases the restoration of the surrounding ecology, reduces the persecution of the natural ecology by heat radiation, and provides a visual feast for people to relax and relieve stress, and also fulfills the goal of sustainable development of enterprises and achieves the vision of coexistence between technology and ecology.
The number of plants planted in this project is as high as 90,000, and each plant’s characteristics, growth, and appearance are carefully selected. Ceylon Ardisia, Scandent Scheffera, and Glossy Privet, which have the functions of pollution prevention and air purification, are chosen to effectively filter fluoride, toluene, and other volatile gases in the air, and also absorb carbon dioxide from the environment to release oxygen, thus improving air quality and achieving the goal of carbon reduction in buildings.
For the technology of vegetation walls, the designer needs to consider various factors such as building appearance, geographical environment, climate, and plant characteristics. The main components are made of recyclable HDPE material, which is non-toxic and does not contain heavy metals, and has the advantages of water retention and good air permeability to promote root growth. Considering the long-term maintenance of the project, the water supply facilities were integrated with the building's rainwater recycling system, and the drip irrigation lines were automatically controlled so that water resources could be reused to reduce the waste of resources. In addition, the team also planned a dedicated maintenance management catwalk, which is hidden behind the planting wall, so that the maintenance staff can be safer in the follow-up maintenance and indirectly reduce the hazardous situation of working at height.
