Nanhui City, also known as Ling'gang City, is an ambitious satellite city of Shanghai. Built upon the mudflats along Shanghai's coastline, the city is constantly in dialogue with the ebb and flow of tides and winds. This continuous exchange of energy between land and ocean creates a unique pattern that defines the city's character.
Anmao Road Pocket Park, located at the intersection of a densely populated residential area and the city's central business district, is designed to establish an emotional connection with its daily visitors. The park offers convenient amenities for all ages, making it a versatile space for the community. It translates the interconnected, dynamic coastal ecosystem into a refreshing oasis within the bustling metropolis, providing a place for residents to recharge and reconnect amidst their busy lives.
Facing the challenges posed by climate change, the park adopts four key strategies to enhance its resilience. First, it introduces undulating topography through cut-and-fill techniques, creating a dynamic pedestrian experience while providing locations for rain gardens. Second, a comprehensive sponge system is integrated into the park to harvest and store rainwater, which is then used for the park's daily maintenance. Third, the park promotes energy efficiency by incorporating smart systems and photovoltaic roofs for all buildings. Lastly, a pleasant microclimate is achieved by channeling prevailing summer winds into open spaces and reducing wind speed through strategic planting designs. This pocket park serves as an exemplary model, showcasing the power of green infrastructure while reflecting the city's character on both macro and local scales.
