Space Nest is a residential complex located in Taiwan. It consists of thirty three-bedroom, two living room units, and twenty one-bedroom, one living room units. This design employs a tilted arrangement to create a visually unstable structure with sharp angles. On the exterior of the building, 70 identical-sized tilted units are used, and a gradually expanding combination is applied to achieve maximum visual impact, forming a complex structural entity.
Drawing inspiration from the structural pattern of a bird's nest, this design concept utilizes the arrangement of identical units to create diversity in residential spaces. The overall structure distinctly delineates interior and exterior spaces, with the exterior serving as the communal area within the residential units, and the interior housing as private spaces. Therefore, through its circular design, the architectural form takes on an open configuration to ensure ample natural light and airflow for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
By utilizing a centripetal arrangement, the smallest unit modules are combined into basic forms, and through the inclined placement of blocks, different floors are connected. These unit modules, after undergoing rotation and clipping along the Z-axis, form the structural elements of the building blocks with metallic finishes.
The public space is formed by four planes at different elevations in replacement of the traditional use of walls to divide household spaces. In daily life, the visually transparent nature of different elevated platforms allows family members to maintain independent spaces during daily routines while also sharing each other's living situations.
