This project, located in Shuanglang Town, Dali, involves the transformation of a self-built property into a boutique guesthouse. Situated near the main street of Shuanglang Ancient Town, it is approximately 1 kilometer from the town's pier and 45 kilometers from Dali City, with easy access via charming stone-paved roads that reflect local character.

In the rapidly evolving homestay market, various hotel styles emerge in quick succession, often overlooking the intrinsic differences between homestays and traditional hotels. Many investors excessively focus on hardware facilities, leading to a homogenization of the accommodation sector. However, the essence of a homestay lies in blending local culture, natural scenery, ecological resources, and unique tourism environments to offer a high-end, immersive vacation experience. This relaxed and lifestyle-oriented ambiance is something traditional hotels struggle to replicate.

The site is bordered by Erhai Lake to the south and a village road to the north, with buildings blocking views to the east and west. The original structure followed a traditional courtyard layout, with its southern view of Erhai obstructed, resulting in limited vistas, poor lighting, and restricted ventilation and connectivity. Our redesign prioritizes these issues by removing the south-facing two-story structure to create an open visual axis, transforming the ground floor into a public area and centering all functional spaces around this axis. The exterior design adheres to a "landscape-first" principle, employing a terraced layout to enhance both the architectural layering and the viewing experience from within.

The overall design strikes a balance between dynamism and tranquility, maximizing the sense of a luxurious retreat. Inspired by the aesthetic of a South of France holiday, the design emphasizes the interplay of light and shadow to create a soft, artistic atmosphere. At the same time, Bai ethnic cultural elements are seamlessly integrated into the spatial experience, offering a serene and authentic environment. This immersive approach fosters relaxation and emotional resonance, establishing a distinctive homestay concept that stands apart in the hospitality industry.
