Colours. They are the heart’s desires, the world’s obsession. Precepts. They are the principles of self-belief. Through the use of test signal patterns (Test Card/Test Pattern), à la TV broadcasts, the infinite loop of the end-of-day image draws parallels to our own world and one can metaphorically infer that people’s hearts are constantly facing a barrage of temptation, pushing their resolve, so that they find it difficult to restrain from giving in. The image of Mazu and Buddha their calming presence symbolizes the world’s reverence for the gods. To attain peace of mind and tolerance, one follows the teachings of their ascribed gods. But in a colourful world, one filled with temptations, how does one keep the heart at bay and maintain a selfless soul that shuns these desires? In a world of temptations, it is very much like the broadcasting of television and the endless cycle of the daily ending routine. One constantly appeals to the gods, in hopes of returning to that calming peace of mind. It is contradictory and it is also ironic. We don’t seem to understand that we have to live our lives by abiding by certain rules and by following these rules, we will be able to stay away from temptations and have a free heart. Clear your temptations, they interfere with your peace, but be colourful in enriching your soul.
