Soft gray hues set a calm foundation, gently infused with shades of leafy green to shape a space of quiet ease. A touch of vivid orange threads through the palette adds vitality to the understated warmth of wood. Together, these elements strike a subtle balance—composed, refreshing, and full of life. A slate-green feature wall, meticulously introduced, adds an air of sophistication without drawing undue attention. Sunlight streams through sheer drapery, shifting with the day while a transparent partition draws the dining and living areas into fluid dialogue. Views flow from room to room and then outward—seamlessly connecting the interior with the natural scenery beyond, like a living scroll of ink and wash painting. In this space, the rhythms of daily life slow to a gentle pace. Whether to gather with friends or alone in reflection, it offers a setting where the mind and body can fully unwind.

To honor the homeowners’ desire for light and greenery, the designer strategically removed the original walls and introduced layered timber grid partitions with textured glass. Light filters through in shifting patterns, creating moments of visual intrigue. Varied tones of green—seen in the leather sofa, feature wall, and rug—anchor the palette, while orange accents add balance and contrast. Existing beams were reimagined as sculptural ceiling features, adding rhythm and movement to the space without disrupting its stillness.

The design replaces the former tatami room’s solid walls with sliding doors framed in slim metal and gray-tinted glass—an intentional shift from enclosed to open. At the border of the dining and living areas, a white grid partition in reeded glass invites natural light to spread gently across the room. As the sun moves, shadows shift, and the space seems to breathe. Pale green paint behind the sofa softens the white of the TV wall, and timber flooring anchors the room with a sense of quiet steadiness.

Rather than rely on pre-selected paint swatches, the designer spent time on-site fine-tuning the colors, layer by layer, until the tones felt right. The slate green chosen for the doors has a grounded depth to it.
