This poster series is centered around the core concept of "eating in accordance with the seasons," and is inspired by one of China's most significant cultural heritages—the 24 Solar Terms, which were inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016. The 24 Solar Terms are not only a crystallization of ancient Chinese wisdom in guiding agricultural production and daily life, but also the origin of a rich and diverse culinary culture that aligns with the rhythms of nature.
We are dedicated to blending profound traditional philosophy with modern creative design, using visual art as a medium to reinterpret and promote the cultural essence of “eating with the seasons.” The design of this poster series follows several key principles:
Seasonal Color Palette: Each Solar Term is represented by a distinct color scheme inspired by its unique natural landscapes and atmospheres, evoking a vivid sense of the season.
Folk Symbols: Representative seasonal foods are carefully selected and emphasized as core visual symbols. Through a combination of imagery and text, we explore the deep connections between these ingredients and the seasonal climate, health preservation needs, and cultural significance. For example, during the Summer Solstice, when the weather is particularly hot and humid, lily bulbs and lotus seeds—known for their heat-clearing and detoxifying properties—are featured. By incorporating elements such as lotus flowers and lotus seeds into the main visuals, we reinforce the intimate link between food, seasonal timing, and traditional culture.
This poster series is not only an exploration of visual art, but also a practice in cultural preservation. Through these works, we aim to:
Preserve Cultural Heritage: Raise awareness of the 24 Solar Terms as a treasured intangible cultural heritage and highlight the Eastern philosophy of respecting nature and living in harmony with seasonal rhythms.
Innovate Visual Expression: Revitalize traditional cultural elements through modern design techniques, exploring innovative pathways for the transformation and dissemination of traditional culture in contemporary society.
Cultural Connotations: Traditional Chinese patterns, utensils, and other cultural elements are thoughtfully integrated to enrich the visual depth and cultural significance of the designs.
