The first boutique entirely 3D printed in concrete.
Blatt & Blüte | Flower Boutique is entirely and sustainably printed by the highest resolution concrete powder bed printer available today. All the non-structural parts, furniture, decorations, exhibition stands, cabinets and desks of the boutique are single production and bespoke design pieces, specifically conceived for the boutique and 3D printed in concrete with recycled glass as base material. The resulting boutique creates a refreshing atmosphere where the rawness of the 3D printed concrete accentuates the vibrant display of flowers.
This project signifies a breakthrough in architectural design and sustainable construction by being the first-ever boutique to incorporate a fully 3D printed concrete interior. It demonstrates innovation by harnessing the power of the most advanced concrete powder bed printer, a technology that has transformed the realm of bespoke design by enabling an unprecedented level of customization. The project's originality lies not only in its use of technology but also in its unique approach to solving design challenges. It introduces a new way to create customized interiors that are tailored to meet specific needs and aesthetic preferences, all while promoting sustainability through the use of recycled glass in the concrete mix.
The primary challenge was to design a space that would both contrast and complement the soft, colorful flower arrangements that it would house. The raw, textured aesthetic of the 3D printed concrete provided the perfect backdrop, enhancing the beauty of the flowers while creating a visually arresting contrast. This balance was achieved by 3D printing all non-structural elements of the boutique, from the furniture to the decorations, and adding color to selected areas to create a harmonious ambiance.
This project serves as a proof of concept, showcasing the potential of 3D concrete printed objects in small-scale projects. The success of this boutique could pave the way for larger projects, leading to a significant reduction in the environmental impact of concrete if adopted on a larger scale, thereby meeting the principles of inclusive design and contributing positively to society.
