Wheel of Serenity — A Pet Memorial Urn Inspired by the Tibetan Prayer Wheel

This project stems from my personal experience — I have two elderly dogs, and the thought of one day losing them inspired me to design a commemorative urn that carries both remembrance and blessings. As a Buddhist, I hope this piece can not only memorialize pets but also aid their spiritual practice, guiding them toward peace in the afterlife.

The urn is inspired by the Tibetan Buddhist prayer wheel, featuring the six-syllable mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" embedded inside. When the urn is rotated, it mimics the turning of a prayer wheel — each rotation by the owner symbolizes the accumulation of merit, purification of karma, and the alleviation of suffering for their beloved pet.

The urn features a raised dog’s nose, representing the most sensitive and communicative part of a dog’s body. It becomes a medium for the owner to reconnect with their pet — when the owner touches the nose, it feels as if they are once again sensing the presence of their beloved dog, evoking warm and vivid memories.

A hollowed-out section on the side of the urn symbolizes the dog’s ears and allows a clear view of the internal mantra. The base of the urn is shaped to resemble a dog’s collar, reinforcing the sense of identity and emotional bond.

The top includes a customizable paw print stamping area, making each urn unique. When the owner places their hand over it, it feels like a final handshake or high-five with their pet — a quiet continuation of love.

Available in ceramic, frosted glass, or wood, each material represents purity, serenity, or warmth — enhancing the ritual and healing aspect of the piece.

This is not merely an urn — it is a sacred container for the soul and a spiritual practice of love and letting go. May it accompany more pet owners through grief, and help rebuild the bond in another form.
