Rooted in the cultural context of Lishui, Zhejiang, the Yunhe County Experimental Primary School History Museum reinterprets the “academy spirit” through a seamless fusion of Song Dynasty aesthetics and contemporary exhibition language. Drawing inspiration from Song-style garden corridors and the layered forms of Yunhe’s iconic terraced fields, the museum’s immersive spatial design creates a poetic landscape experience through staggered exhibition walls, dynamic lighting, and interactive storytelling.

The design translates dense regional symbols—such as lattice grids and tiered contours—into rhythmic spatial modules using parametric modeling, transforming traditional architectural grammar into a modern, modular system. A narrative of the school’s history unfolds along a meandering garden-like path, where multimedia installations echo classic Chinese garden patterns and turn passive observation into active cultural engagement.

Key features include:

Ink-Wash Media Walls: A blend of digital ink projections and real xuan paper panels creates a layered "virtual-real" narrative, allowing historical documents to come alive within a scroll-like visual experience.

Curved LED Timeline Wall: A flowing electronic screen plays key milestones in the school’s history, making heritage visually dynamic and engaging.

Interactive Signature Wall: Visitors’ handwritten messages are transformed into flowing ink particles and merged into a living digital scroll, contributing to a collective memory cloud.

The project redefines the school history museum as a space for emotional resonance and community identity. From the façade—echoing the texture of scroll paintings and terraced hills—to the interior’s calming wood tones and grey hues, every detail evokes a serene “return to the academy.” By replacing over 60% of physical boards with digital interfaces, the museum enhances content flexibility while minimizing environmental impact.

As a cultural engine in rural revitalization, the museum creates a sustainable ecosystem of education, tradition, and innovation. It transforms local heritage into a shared public asset, making the past not only visible, but touchable, immersive, and ever-evolving.
