The Park View Road Underpass is one of four East-West connections between Tottenham and the Lee Valley. It is located at the eastern end of Park View Road and provides an important connection to the Tottenham Marshes.
The cycle lane is part of a wider cycle route between Tottenham and Enfield that includes the new Tottenham Hale station and Tottenham Marshes. The underpass has seen more users recently as a result of the pandemic but is generally underutilised.
Main projects goals includes:
- Create an inclusive and welcoming public realm
- Promote active traveling
- Promote security and sense of safety
- Enhance local identity
- Improve connectivity with surrounding areas
The focus of this project is the public space either side of the underpass. Its main feature is the coexistence of pedestrian and cycle routes. The project aims to enhance the public realm of the area by bringing together local community, art and design whilst increasing safety in the way the users interact.
The Park View Road Underpass is a key project for improving the experience of Tottenham Hale as a place outside of the Central District, whilst providing a substantial upgrade to the East-West connectivity. The outcome reinforces the area as a key route to the Lee Valley redressing the balance between cyclists and pedestrians.
A consistent approach has been taken forward with regard to paving materials and furniture palette in order to achieve continuity and coherence with other schemes recently completed outside the Central District.
