About The Entry

The 12 Emo Zodiac is a symbolic language of emotion expressed through twelve archetypal icons—each embodying a core emotional state such as fear, compassion, clarity, or anger. These visual totems blend hand-drawn mandalas with astrological symbolism and psychological insight, forming a contemplative dialogue between image and inner life. Conceived by Melbourne-based designer Beam Ker, the project originated as a personal healing ritual and gradually unfolded into a poetic framework for emotional storytelling and self-reflection.

Initially aligned with the twelve birth months, each icon offers a deeply personal point of resonance—anchoring the viewer in their own emotional season. At the same time, the system invites intuitive interpretation: a fluid calendar of moods that mirrors the emotional rhythms of a year, adaptable to each viewer’s lived experience and inner landscape.

Each icon—conceived as a “wellness meme” or emotional artifact—was first hand-sketched through meditative drawing and later refined digitally using Canva. Guided by principles of color psychology, astrological archetypes, and symbolic mapping, the result is a cohesive visual lexicon designed to support ritual, resonance, and reflection.

More than a decorative element, The 12 Emo Zodiac serves as a modular emotional vocabulary—merging intuitive artistry with purposeful, contemplative design. Its current applications include art prints, wearable objects, and conceptual explorations within interior and architectural spaces. Future directions envision immersive installations, therapeutic tools, and cross-disciplinary collaborations in wellness, fashion, and the cultural arts.
