Baidu’s Cultural AI Initiative

In a globalized world where traditional culture faces diminishing relevance among younger generations, AI Explores China offers an innovative solution by fusing artificial intelligence with regional heritage. Developed by Baidu, this project introduces 34 AI-powered digital agents—each representing a province of China and embodying its unique cultural identity.

Harnessing the power of the Wenxin large language model, users can engage with these AI agents through text, voice, or an immersive “phone call” mode. Each interaction delivers vivid, story-driven responses about local customs, intangible heritage, and folk traditions—making cultural learning accessible, engaging, and emotionally resonant.

The design marries modern aesthetics with traditional art. Inspired by historical costumes and ethnic patterns, each AI agent features region-specific attire, from silver headdresses to imperial court accessories. Color palettes reflect the visual language of ethnic minorities, water towns, and historic dynasties, bringing personality and cultural depth to every digital figure.

Available through Baidu Search, this experience lowers the barrier to cultural discovery. Users simply enter “Spring Festival AI Agent” to explore diverse regional traditions across China in an intuitive and interactive way.

Looking ahead, AI Explores China envisions a global platform for cultural exchange. With multilingual support in over 100 languages and plans for a VR/AR-powered virtual heritage library, the project seeks to preserve endangered crafts and foster immersive educational experiences worldwide.
