About The Entry

Humanities and Arts Installations at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport T1 Terminal

Located in the busiest core area of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport’s Terminal 1, this group of art installations plays a vital role in the airport’s cultural and humanistic development. The design concept centers around two main themes: “Humanistic Care” and “Cultural Expression.” Through three distinctive thematic sections — “Bamboo Elegance,” “Bashan and Shu Waters,” and “Ancient Shu Civilization” — the installations vividly showcase Sichuan’s rich heritage.

Each theme offers a unique visual narrative reflecting the region’s intangible cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and profound historical roots. The “Bamboo Elegance” theme captures the elegance and tranquility associated with bamboo, a symbol deeply embedded in local culture. “Bashan and Shu Waters” celebrates Sichuan’s majestic mountains and rivers, highlighting the harmony between nature and human life. Meanwhile, “Ancient Shu Civilization” draws on archeological and cultural motifs from one of China’s earliest civilizations, underscoring the area’s historical depth.

By blending traditional elements with contemporary artistic expression, the installations create an immersive experience that resonates with both local and international travelers. The use of innovative design techniques ensures a seamless integration of art within the functional airport environment, making the space not only visually engaging but also culturally enriching.

This project distinctly embodies regional identity, enhancing the sense of place within the airport and elevating the overall passenger experience. It exemplifies how infrastructure can serve as a platform for cultural storytelling and humanistic engagement, positioning Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport as a pioneer in the development of culturally resonant airports in China.
