Inspired by the concept of a “village,” this project redefines urban living by rejecting excessive spatial subdivision and embracing openness, flexibility, and human connection. The original three-bedroom layout was reconfigured along a central axis leading to the balcony, introducing open living and sleeping areas separated by a transitional dressing room. A looping circulation allows light, air, and sightlines to flow freely, dissolving rigid boundaries and enabling multiple ways of living within the same space.

Without dominant walls or fixed orientations, furniture and functions can adapt to changing needs, turning the home into a stage for evolving daily life. Materiality and lighting further enhance this flexibility: mineral-based finishes and wood surfaces soften the interior, while circular ceiling lights—large for gatherings, small for solitude—create a poetic rhythm of light and shadow. Adjustable lighting levels respond to different moods and times of day, reinforcing the home’s fluid character.

Practical details also reflect thoughtful care: circulation paths frame distant mountain views despite neighboring buildings, while motion-sensor floor lighting in the bedroom corridor addresses the owner’s night-blindness.

Sustainability is embedded throughout the design. Open planning maximizes daylight and natural ventilation, reducing energy use, while eco-friendly materials such as mineral coatings and recyclable wood align with environmental responsibility.

Ultimately, the home balances “me” and “us”—a place where intimacy and independence coexist, where life can shift between shared activities like reading or movies and solitary moments of reflection and rest. Like a modern village, it invites connection while preserving freedom, allowing life within it to flow and grow naturally over time.
