Taking the inclusive and open character of Ningbo as its foundation, this project anchors on the residential DNA of business-owning families and is tailored for young families with two children. Drawing inspiration from “the form of water,” the design connects residential concepts with feng shui philosophy to create a long-term modern mansion that responds to the city’s heritage while supporting diverse lifestyle needs—child-rearing, gatherings, and relaxation.

Breaking free from traditional paradigms, the design focuses on the artistic reconstruction of structures and a coherent spatial language. Undulating wave-shaped ceilings are organized around beams and pipelines, preserving ceiling height while concealing functional facilities. Walls echo these flowing forms, while furniture adopts soft curves, allowing “the form of water” to permeate the space. Original columns are transformed into curved “tree” structures that serve as display shelves and seating, turning functional constraints into features. Guided by the “10% accent color” principle, touches of red, such as the artistic sofa in the master bedroom, enliven the otherwise warm, gentle palette.

The aesthetic blends restrained grace with luxurious texture: the foyer symbolizes gathering prosperity, while marble inlay patterns and an Amazon Green stone wall evoke ocean waves. Acrylic screens reflect shifting light and shadow like the city’s neon glow, while panoramic windows frame views of Eastern New City, bringing nature and light indoors.

The layout embodies “balanced adaptation,” featuring five bedroom suites, multiple communal areas, and integrated living, dining, and kitchen zones connected to landscaped balconies. Children’s spaces are adjacent yet independent, and a lounge hub along the corridor fosters family interaction. Overall, “the form of water” links public, transitional, and private areas, blurring boundaries between indoors and outdoors, and creating a serene living realm where residents can find comfort and emotional belonging.
