Departing from the conventional style-driven narrative, the homeowners—a couple—hoped for a space that could embody both warmth and quietude. Situated in Zhubei, this 82.6 square meter pre-owned apartment was completely reconfigured. The designer began by deconstructing the original layout, eliminating visual barriers and awkward flow to create a home that feels open yet intimate. The final design presents a space where daily life unfolds softly, guided by light and rhythm—like holding a fig in your palm: serene, pure, and unexpectedly layered.

The most transformative element of this project was the restructuring of the original layout. Originally a cramped three-bedroom unit with poor airflow and awkward circulation—especially with the living and dining areas placed diagonally—the designer removed one major partition and repositioned the living room inward, placing the dining area near the entrance. This arrangement tucks the most private functions away from direct sightlines and improves both daylighting and ventilation. It also allows a smoother, more gradual transition between social and private areas. Storage was consolidated along the TV wall and a concealed storage room, creating a visually unified and balanced composition.

Another design highlight is the interplay between dining area, kitchen island, and living room. Once unnecessary partitions were removed, daylight and airflow could move freely from front to back balconies, enhancing a rhythm of interaction reminiscent of an American-style family space. The homeowners can now cook, entertain, and relax all in one open setting—where sightlines connect and activity areas remain distinct yet harmoniously linked. This creates a home where “gathering” becomes part of daily life.
