‘Dance, too, is a sensed form. It presents all the traits and characters, all the rhythm and linkage, transition, and articulation, all the complexity and fullness that belong to the inner life.’ ~ Susanne K. Langer (1895-1985), American Philosopher
Planning of the layout began early during the pre-sale customization phase, reconfigured with 2 living, 1 bedroom, and 1 bath for this snug 45-square-meter flat. Inspired by the owner's daughter's substantial background in music, the design unfolds with a sense of rhythm and progression, much like the graceful swirling and gliding of a waltz. The approach embraces an open plan that serves as a functional intermediary in breaking constraints of an otherwise compact space.
The designer perceives materials as catalysts and mediums in nurturing sensations and interactions between people and space. And that the essence of a good design lies in its deeper connotations rather than mere superficial allure. Herein, Mortex coating, stone and specialty paints, retro terrazzo, rattan screen, FENIX surface, acoustic fluted panel and patterned glass range among the versatile materials furnishing this household.
By integrating curves and fluid lines to define the open sense of the common areas, and using a clean background to heighten the homeowner's beloved possessions, this project vividly reflects the refined lifestyle of its residents. It is a well-versed work of modern charm with a human touch. In a ‘subtractive’ manner, physical partitions between areas are removed, allowing for smooth flow between spaces. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are seamlessly integrated, with sliding doors and a rotating TV-stand to remain flexible for the residents’ evolving needs.
