The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Unit 22, is conceived as a sanctuary that reflects the homeowner’s appreciation for nature, craftsmanship, and timeless design. From the outset, the vision was clear: to create a residence where wood defines the design language, bringing warmth, serenity, and a lasting connection to nature.
The concept draws from the homeowner’s fondness for arches, transforming this classical motif into a refined, contemporary expression. Historically, arches have represented strength and continuity across civilizations. In this home, they are reinterpreted to capture that heritage within a modern and intimate context.
The Trefoil Arch, a three-lobed form found in classical Greek and Roman architecture, served as a key inspiration. Its geometry informed a series of soft, layered curvatures integrated into the interior architecture. These subtle forms are expressed through wall detailing, shelving, and staircase features, adding rhythm and depth while maintaining a sense of lightness and sophistication.
Natural wood tones form the foundation of the palette, complemented by tactile materials that celebrate craftsmanship. Every element, from bespoke joinery to ambient lighting, was composed to evoke calmness and refined simplicity. The play of light and shadow enhances the organic qualities of the materials, creating a space that feels both grounded and uplifting.
Beyond its visual harmony, the residence embodies a dialogue between past and present, modern yet timeless, minimal yet full of character. The arch and wood motifs become more than decorative elements; they symbolize the homeowner’s personality, graceful, thoughtful, and deeply connected to nature.
The result is a home that redefines classic forms through a modern lens, uniting architectural tradition with contemporary sensibility. Through its cohesive language of materiality and form, Unit 22 stands as an elegant expression of harmony between design, craftsmanship, and the natural world.
