The Era of Good Characters & Well Written

Demonstrating the Beauty of Chinese Written Words

Writing is a vital medium for sustaining civilization, transmitting knowledge, and enabling the exchange of ideas. Yet in an age when information is produced, replicated, and disseminated at overwhelming speed, discerning truth and identifying authorship have become pressing challenges of our time.

“Good Characters, Well Written” reimagines the Chinese phrase “mind your own conduct,” exploring the evolving role and transformation of written language in contemporary society. Between the lines, we read not only meaning, but also the spirit of an era.

With the rise of AI, the mediums, channels, and agents of writing have been profoundly reshaped: speed has overtaken contemplation, and automated generation has replaced the intimacy of handwriting. Within this context, we must ask—what kind of “mind your own conduct” era are we living in today?

This exhibition brings together ten groups of artists and collectives, unfolding this inquiry through four thematic sections:

1. The Continuity of Text: Between Past and Present

2. The Medium of Text: Between Control and Control + C

3. The Habitat of Text: Between the Unique and the Template

4. The Possibilities of Text: Between Assistance and Autonomy

Each section features poems co-created by poet Hsu Pei-Fen and her language model, inviting viewers to read, sense, and reflect—experiencing together an era shaped by good writing and good self-conduct.
