“HAPPY LANDSCAPE” serves as the project’s guiding framework, rooted in contemporary Eastern aesthetics and conceived as a response to the intertwined spiritual and natural aspirations of life within a high-density ur-ban environment. Emphasis is placed on the ritual of arrival, guiding resi-dents back into a calm, introspective, and modern Zen-inspired sanctuary—where space becomes a vessel for the passage of time, its transformations, and its quiet accumulation.
The landscape structure is organized through the spatial logic of “Shin · Gyō · Sō”.
“Shin” establishes the ceremonial interface of arrival;
“Gyō” mediates the transition between interior and exterior spaces;
“Sō” introduces an organic, three-dimensional circulation that allows na-ture to flow freely, forming an implicit boundary between public and private realms.
By integrating fire-access requirements into the landscape, and through the orchestration of density and openness, concealment and reveal, as well as controlled sightlines, a rhythmic spatial sequence of rise and fall is created.
Inspired by the architectural motif of “sails,” the “Xingzhou Garden” translates the imagery of the sea into a continuous landscape narrative. Referencing the “Eight Scenic Views of Pazhou,” the garden unfolds through a layered composition of topography, flowing water, ancient banyan trees, pines, and stone. The landscape is experienced as an unfolding spatial scroll, where solidity and void coexist, establishing a delicate balance be-tween urban vitality and a state of spiritual retreat.
