2026 ‘Island Tales’ Scarf Collection

We create original, striking and innovative designs using our own software, mov.i.see, which responds to body movement to reconstruct digital data (photos, videos). Unlike conventional repeating motifs, each composition emerges from motion data, resulting in asymmetrical, fluid forms that feel dynamic and alive. Patterns are finished by hand, manipulating colour and form, then digitally-printed onto natural fabrics.

             Our 2026 ‘Island Tales’ wool scarf collection comprises 14 patterns inspired by our home country, Taiwan. The aim was to capture Taiwan’s cultural history and depict both its natural and urban environments. The challenge was to encapsulate the identity and spirit of a unique island and its peoples in creative yet elegant wearable patterns for diverse audiences. We drew on two core sources of inspiration: a unique collaboration with internationally acclaimed calligrapher Tong Yang-tze (b. 1942), whose practice bridges classical tradition and contemporary expression; and inspiration from a public art installation we completed in 2025 for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

We researched ideas and colourways, collected visual data and experimented with form, colour and pattern. After selecting digital data, we used layered design to bridge the gap between the human and the abstract. The final 14 patterns are influenced by Taiwan’s majestic landscape, rich cultural history and thriving urban life and industry: the centrepiece is the collaboration with Tong, which blends her powerful script for ‘Taiwan’ with digital contours of the island’s mountain peaks; other designs are inspired by Taiwan’s lush forests, contemplative temples, unpredictable ocean, bustling cities and digital technologies. Through iteration, we modified the patterns as they were being created, rather than allow the software to completely dictate the design and to ensure that they reveal the authorship of the designer.

Every pattern carries a distinct sense of individuality, shaped by movement and time. They are digitally-printed onto the finest combed wool using heavy metal-free dyes that fully penetrate the fabric, producing vibrant, double-sided imagery. The material is specially treated to enhance softness and comfort, ensuring each piece is as wearable as it is visually striking.
