Dapu Community possesses abundant bamboo forest resources, which have long shaped a distinctive cultural landscape rooted in bamboo craftsmanship. Taking the concept of a “Bamboo Sphere Park” as its starting point, this project responds to the community’s long-standing coexistence with bamboo while integrating carbon reduction, greening strategies, and an all-ages-friendly environment into a unified design approach.

Drawing inspiration from observations of local stream ecosystems, the project selected the representative indicator species—the Nanhaipotamon formosanum (Nanhai Stream Crab)—as its theme. Through artistic intervention, an underutilized site was transformed into a public space that combines spatial revitalization with ecological education, allowing environmental awareness to take root within everyday community life.

Centered on the Bamboo Crab Art Pavilion, the project integrates four key dimensions—carbon reduction, experiential design, local character, and universal design—to create a multifunctional demonstration site. Its key features are as follows:

• Ecological Landmark through Art

Under the guidance of bamboo art master Guo Shou-Fa from the nearby Shibi Community, a large-scale bamboo-woven installation depicting the Nanhaipotamon formosanum was created. This artwork symbolizes the community’s commitment to caring for and protecting local stream ecology, serving as a highly recognizable environmental education landmark.

• Symbol of Cultural Continuity

Three oversized bamboo spheres were installed within the site, representing community cohesion and the continuous circulation of natural resources. By merging traditional bamboo weaving techniques with contemporary spatial design, the project demonstrates the expansive potential of bamboo as a medium in modern artistic expression.

• All-Ages Universal Environment

The spatial planning emphasizes universal accessibility, with optimized pedestrian circulation and thoughtfully placed resting areas. The design ensures that residents and visitors of all ages can safely and comfortably use the space, reinforcing inclusivity as a core value of the project.
