Antoni Gaudí: Straight lines belong to humans, while curves belong to God.
This project adopts continuous curved surfaces as its architectural language and integrates wabi-sabi aesthetics to create a calm and relaxed living space. The original basement was a single-story space with insufficient lighting, a cramped layout, and an overly bulky staircase that wasted usable area.
Through structural restructuring, the design has expanded the floor height to 5.2 meters and transformed it into a double-height space. A 4-meter light well has been constructed, and additional small light wells have been renovated with planted landscapes introduced to bring in natural light and vitality, resolving the inherent drawbacks of the basement.
The underground space features a sunken living room, an open bookshelf area, and a fitness zone, with an artistic spiral staircase paired with an elevator reorganizing the circulation. The layouts of the first and third floors have been optimized, with the third floor integrated into a master suite. Relying on materials, light and shadow, and curves, the whole design interprets wabi-sabi aesthetics.
