Stone Sculpture Park in Kinmen is situated within a landscape where cultural memory and natural environment intertwine, forming a site that reflects both historical depth and contemporary public life. The 2026 Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival reimagines this space through light as its primary medium, transforming the park and its surrounding areas into an immersive nocturnal environment. Rooted in local traditions and seasonal rituals, the design integrates lighting, spatial narrative, and circulation to create a continuous experiential journey across the site.
The lighting installations combine artistic expression with public engagement, employing layered illumination, subtle contrasts, and interactive elements to construct a dynamic visual field. Rather than functioning solely as decoration, light becomes a medium that defines spatial perception, guides movement, and shapes collective experience. Pathways, gathering nodes, and landmarks are carefully connected, allowing visitors to navigate through a sequence of illuminated scenes that unfold gradually through time and movement.
During the day, the park retains its openness, natural textures, and quiet atmosphere. At night, it is transformed into a vibrant environment shaped by the interplay between light, shadow, and human presence. The project emphasizes the relationship between temporality and perception, highlighting how ephemeral illumination can reshape familiar spaces and evoke new forms of engagement.
By merging contemporary lighting design with local cultural references, the project creates a platform where visitors become both observers and participants. It invites reflection on how light constructs memory and identity, offering a renewed understanding of Kinmen as a place where tradition and modernity coexist in an evolving spatial narrative.
