Faultline Pavilion

About The Entry

Faultline Pavilion is a pop-up boutique created for brand KAILAS FUGA at Chengdu International Finance Square (IFS), one of China’s most prominent urban retail and cultural destinations. Inspired by the experience of trail running through extreme mountain landscapes, the pavilion transforms ideas of movement, endurance and exploration into an immersive spatial environment.

The pavilion is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of a mountain landscape emerging within the city. A series of stacked rock-like volumes are combined with silver metallic elements, creating a strong visual landmark within the public plaza. The contrast between dark stone-textured surfaces and reflective metallic forms expresses the relationship between weight and movement, echoing the physical challenges and changing conditions encountered during long-distance trail running.

Visitors experience the pavilion through two interconnected spatial sequences. The first sequence is defined by low lighting, compressed spatial proportions and a repetitive structural rhythm, creating a sense of uncertainty and extended movement similar to navigating mountain trails at night. The second sequence introduces diagonal metallic volumes and a focused light source that guides visitors forward, evoking the anticipation, determination and clarity experienced when approaching dawn and the finish line.

By integrating architectural form, exhibition design and brand storytelling, Faultline Pavilion creates a memorable visitor experience that communicates the spirit of endurance and adventure central to the brand. More than a temporary retail installation, the project brings the atmosphere and spatial qualities of remote mountain terrain into the heart of a dense urban environment, offering visitors an immersive encounter with the values and identity of the brand.
