About The Entry

In 1895, the Yiwei War was an unforgettable historical event in which the Hakka people swore to defend their homeland. 2023, the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taoyuan, for the 2023 HAKKA EXPO, brought the story of the ancestors to the stage in the Yiwei Baotai Memorial Park. “Journey to Yiwei" is a wake-up call from the past. It commemorates the spirit of fighting for freedom and against war within the framework of the Yiwei War. Combining projection, fire dance, contemporary circus, and physical expression, the visual and audio integration breaks the audience's impression of the historical event and creates a new form of traditional Hakka cultural performance.

The venue, the Yiwei Baotai Memorial Park, has the image of a "ring", signifying the determination of the ancestors to defend their homeland. The purpose of this performance is also centered on this image of the ring, emphasizing the spirit of recirculation and peace.
