Driftwood Forest

Located in a villa complex in Nantun District, Taichung City, Taiwan, ‘House Nestled in the Woods’ boasts good lighting and a rustic garden. To accommodate the owner’s passion for collecting vintage Scandinavian home furnishings and admiration for natural, rustic textures, in our design we integrated the owner’s collection into the living space. We aimed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, also giving the villa a sense of having been gracefully aged by the passage of time. The first floor, which serves as the public space, has an earthy, driftwood theme. Layered birch and woven wicker interplay light and shadow, creating a tranquil and uniquely zen atmosphere. The lighting also complements the wood textures, further adding to the serene ambiance. The second floor hosts the living room, the dining room and the kitchen, with different flooring materials used for space distinction. The overall design adopts the color gray, providing a backdrop that highlights the rosewood furniture collection, and brings a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Located on the third floor, the master bedroom utilizes extensive dark green color, as well as some unpainted spaces and wood accents, allowing the interior color scheme to complement the greenery outdoors. The design creates an atmosphere reminiscent of trees bathed in sunlight and the changes of the seasons, giving a refreshing and tranquil ambiance. The fourth floor features two guest bedrooms themed around forests, clouds, mists, and the skyline. Light gray tones are used to create a sense of space extension, and complemented by cabinetry textures, the space feels serene and ethereal.



We incorporated the rustic imagery of driftwoods as the main theme for the overall design. The villa is divided into four sections from bottom to top: "Driftwood," "Forest Trees," "Green Leaves," and "Clouds and Mists." Furthermore, a wooden staircase, evocative of an ancient tree, connects the public and living spaces from floor to ceiling. ‘House Nestled in the Woods’ is more than a villa refined by time; it is a retreat of tranquility and Zen.
