Home Sweet Home. That special feeling when coming home, who does not know it? This living space was created especially for a family of three. They were previously restless and had not really arrived in their adopted home of Vienna. The designer and artist Zsolt Szalai has made it his mission to create a living space in which the small family finally gets this feeling. He created is a mix of minimalism, personality and design.

The apartment in the fourth district of Vienna is a spacious accommodation with an area of about 90m². The premises were initially in a state of disrepair and required extensive renovation. Despite challenging slopes throughout the property, the designer managed to make the most of every space by using custom-made furniture. The apartment had great potential and, through design and remodeling, became this family's long-awaited home.



The existing room concept was completely reworked and the small rooms with suspended ceilings and broken floors, became a large open common space, entrance hall, bathroom, toilet and two bedrooms. In the entrance area there is a small anteroom and access to the toilet. A floor-to-ceiling transparent sliding door with drawings by the artist on it, separates this area from the spacious checkroom, living area and accesses to the bathroom and bedrooms. In the living area there is an open, minimalist kitchen made of burnished steel and Corian.



The designer is known for his choice of materials and colors, as well as his design language. He believes that a thoughtful and simple spatial concept is the most sustainable design. He creates an open and calm atmosphere for the clients and their personal and individual objects, which is what makes a home a home.



An open fireplace, which is centered between the dining area and kitchen, turns winter into a cozy, warm family time. The windows and the small balcony opposite, bring light, sun and a fresh breeze into the home in summer. The view from them shows a green small park and an intimate courtyard.
