To mark its 20th anniversary, MoCA Taipei—a pioneering contemporary art museum housed in a red-brick heritage building—looked inward. The result: two exhibitions that turn institutional memory into a living, walkable experience.
Chrono-contemporary, the main show, reframes exhibitions themselves as the content. Instead of focusing on artworks, it revives past shows as modular installations, inviting viewers to time-travel through two decades of curatorial conversations. The journey begins in a gallery designed like an archaeological site, asking visitors to “dig” into the museum’s past. From there, open, layered spaces merge archival displays and media art, blurring lines between past and present.
The second show, Entrance by Evidence, shines a spotlight on something often overlooked: the exhibition ticket. Each ticket from the past twenty years—uniquely designed for its show—is treated not just as entry, but as an artifact. Grouped into four types—interactive, object-like, sensory, and graphic—these tiny printed works are elevated through immersive staging, revealing how design shapes what we expect to feel before we even enter.
Together, the two exhibitions celebrate MoCA Taipei not just as a space that houses art, but as one that reflects, remembers, and evolves. For visitors, it’s not only a look back—it’s a chance to re-enter.
