In Vietnam, family is deeply cherished.
When it comes to credit card designs tailored for families, many banks have opted for minimalist to luxurious designs which interestingly, leave little room for family centric storytelling within this little rectangular canvas.
MSB posed a creative challenge to Mastercard: To capture the everyday moments that define family life, visualised alongside reminders of their card value propositions on their new product: The MSB Family Card.
These moments like parents guiding a child's first steps, or imparting knowledge to a family member; represent the essence of strong family bonds and future-building. We knew the story to be told, but how would we tell it, creatively?
The design team drew inspiration from something many have grown up with - plastic toy kits, which traditionally are comprised of little individual shapes that are removed from a plastic frame and fit together to form a robot, a car, an aeroplane among other things. These plastic toy kits are an enduring symbol of creativity that bridges generations, reminding adults of their childhood while appealing to the curiosity of younger family members. As part of the design language of this credit card, family values are pieced together through four sources of inspiration, each representing a core pillar of Vietnamese families
Growth - depicts a young family expanding, symbolizing new beginnings and shared progress
Sharing - shows families engaging in activities like travel, connecting them to the wider world
Nurturing - reflects the guidance and support passed from one generation to the next, equipping loved ones for success
Gratitude - captures warm moments of appreciation between parents and children
Together, these elements create an emotional and practical connection rarely seen in financial products.
By combining meaningful design, culturally resonant values, and practical benefits for families, the MSB Family Card transforms from a mere financial tool into a symbol of care, support, and togetherness. It meets Vietnamese families where they are - helping them grow, share, nurture, and express gratitude every day. This unique approach not only fills a market gap but also builds lasting loyalty through emotional resonance and real value.
