About The Entry

Located in the historic Wanhua District of Taipei, the Longshan Cultural & Creative Base has evolved into an important gathering place for contemporary subculture and ACG (anime, comics, and games) communities. Positioned adjacent to the iconic Longshan Temple, the site serves as a key link between traditional heritage and emerging creative activities. As part of an urban initiative to improve public lighting environments, the C Plaza was selected as the first demonstration area within the campus for a complete lighting transformation.

Prior to renovation, C Plaza was characterized by deteriorated and uncoordinated fixtures, excessive glare, and insufficient illumination, which greatly limited its ability to support diverse cultural and creative events. The new lighting design adopts the concept of “re-illuminating a cultural node,” using light as a medium that bridges history and contemporary spatial identity. Inspired by the triangular geometric patterns in the existing ceiling structure, custom-made luminaires were developed to reflect the original architectural language and strengthen spatial recognition.

A complete replacement of obsolete fixtures was carried out, with the lighting layout reconfigured based on an in-depth light environment assessment. The improved brightness and uniformity enhance circulation, reduce visual disturbance, and provide a safer and more comfortable public space. Energy-efficient LED sources and modular components were adopted to optimize long-term maintenance and conform to sustainable development standards.

The design also introduces a Bluetooth-based BIC intelligent lighting control system, allowing the operator to easily switch lighting scenarios through a mobile application, supporting music performances, weekend markets, and various community events. By combining customized lighting forms with smart control technology, the revitalized C Plaza not only improves environmental comfort, but also enables the evolution of the base from a historical landmark to a cultural nexus that embraces both traditional and subcultural creativity.
