First held in 1948, the Liugdui Sports Day reached its 60th edition in 2025. Its origins trace back to the aftermath of the 1721 Zhu Yigui Incident, when Hakka communities of southern Taiwan organized the Liugdui militia alliance to defend their homeland. During the Japanese colonial period, modern sports were introduced to Taiwan, and the Liugdui alliance transformed into sporting competitions that continued to strengthen bonds among villages.

In 2025, hosted by Houdui Neipu, aimed to reintroduce the cultural roots, athletic glory, and enduring spirit of the Liugdui Sports Day to the public. By bringing the museum into the local setting, the event highlighted diversity and interactivity while integrating the distinctive landscape and cultural character of Liugdui.

The exhibition adopted the theme of “Heritage and Glory.” Through archival images, local stories, and sports artifacts, it reviewed the region’s excellence in athletics, baseball, volleyball, and boxing. Highlights included the championship flags and classic photographs of the Chinese Meihe Youth Baseball Team’s victories in 1972 and 1978, as well as memorabilia related to three Liugdui-born players who represented Taiwan in the 2024 WBSC Premier12 Tournament, connecting past glory with present achievement.

The challenge was to integrate the spirit of competition with exhibition content, balancing professional athletics with interactive fun. The team collaborated with local schools and athletes to collect valuable memorabilia and images, while also designing interactive activities for the public. On-site interactive experience zones included baseball batting, volleyball serving, and boxing training, guided by coaches and active athletes, attracting participants of all ages. Recreational games such as rice-sack carrying and “drifting river” were inspired by agricultural practices and folk traditions, preserving local memory while drawing the audience closer.
