Where Light Remembers

Given the relatively low ceiling height, the design team strategically introduced natural and artificial light as the defining language of the interior, alleviating visual pressure and fostering an open, easy ambiance. Concealed the beam structure in the living room ceiling to soften its presence, while rounded corners and a ribbon of diffused lighting trace along the edges, easing the rigidity of the architectural form. A gray-white palette forms the foundation, accented with restrained metal elements, warm wood tones, and selective touches of color. As daylight shifts throughout the day, shadows delicately glide across the varied materials and muted hues, shaping a refined and quietly expressive living environment with a rhythm akin to gentle breathing.

The two floors are planned according to distinct modes of daily life. The first floor—envisioned as the shared stage of the home—removes portions of the original partition walls to create a cohesive flow between the living room, dining area, and study. Glass sliding doors ensure unobstructed sightlines, enabling effortless interaction among family members. Even when a child plays in the living room, parents in the dining area or the study can remain engaged, maintaining warmth and connection. The second floor is shaped as a calm private domain, where clear zoning between shared and private realms supports quiet retreat. The result is a home that balances movement and stillness, offering both spaciousness and composure.

Storage design follows the principle of “hidden yet present.” Handle-less cabinets create clean, uninterrupted surfaces, while rounded edges reduce safety concerns. A thoughtful combination of open display and concealed storage provides room for daily objects as well as treasured keepsakes, allowing memories and personal stories to form the home’s most distinctive landscape.

The project adopts a function-driven, minimal approach, reducing unnecessary decorative elements to create a space that is both comfortable and visually restrained. Low-formaldehyde boards and natural mineral paints are selected to minimize emissions and safeguard indoor air quality, reflecting a commitment to health and environmental responsibility. High-efficiency LED lighting, paired with dual-sided daylighting and well-considered ventilation paths, reduces energy consumption.
