Xinxing Street Community Culture and Sports Center

Located within a community on Mingyue Road in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, the project originally housed the Jiaxing Health Kindergarten. Through renovation and redesign, it has been transformed into an integrated community platform combining administrative offices and public service facilities. The site covers 1,819.11 square meters, with a total floor area of 2,311.53 square meters. The project's completion has fundamentally reshaped the formerly enclosed architectural form, injecting new vitality into the neighborhood and establishing the site as a key hub for community interaction and cultural exchange.

The design team retained the basic structure and scale of the original building while implementing "surgical interventions" focused on "opening up" and "integration." By dismantling previously closed sections, the new structure seamlessly merges with the streetscape, transforming an introverted and isolated space into a fully open "public stage" for the community.

The design emphasizes a narrative of "dialogue between old and new" in its material selection. The semicircular and hexagonal forms of the original architecture are preserved and re-clad with new materials, becoming a textured backdrop that reflects its era. The new construction uses lightweight, transparent, contemporary materials, such as glass curtain walls, fiber cement panels, aluminum plates, and perforated aluminum. Extensive glazing maximizes natural lighting and reveals interior activities to the outside, creating an active "street eye" effect.
