Poly Qingtie · Duxin Langyue, situated in Shibei District, Qingdao, employs strategies of extraction, dissolution and weaving to fuse the cultural lineage of Qilu, maritime heritage and Song-dynasty aesthetics into a mutually illuminating and symbiotic spatial vocabulary. The result is a contemporary humanistic realm that embodies both cultural depth and a richly layered experience.

The design orchestrates a dialogue between tradition and modernity through a contemporary architectural language, unfolding across three dimensions. In terms of spatial sequence, it draws inspiration from the Song-dynasty Canglang Pavilion, adopting the framework of “One Garden, Three Halls” to create a meandering, serpentine garden layout where every step reveals a shifting scene. For formal translation, it extracts the spiritual essence of traditional elements — such as the double-eave roof of Qingdao Tianhou Temple and the semicircular Pan Pond of Jimo Confucian Temple — and transforms them into contemporary architectural expressions, including a 76-metre-long grand entrance interface, a ceremonial drop-off zone, and a bronze-sculpted caisson ceiling titled *Bearing Heaven and Sustaining All Things*. In the language of detail, modern craftsmanship reinterprets the warm, lustrous texture of Ding-ware white porcelain and the scholarly elegance of bamboo-joint screens, converting traditional tactility, hue and spirit into architecture that can be touched and felt.

More than a formal translation, the design is a contemporary reimagining of the genius loci. Through the medium of space, the project offers the city an Eastern vessel of spirit — a place to dwell, to wander and to savour.
