The project is a 300㎡ private residence that we took over due to issues with the original design. After conducting site surveys and interviews with the owner, we redefined the spatial functions and aesthetic requirements, focusing on a "dark tone" as the core theme. Drawing inspiration from "Starfall & Inkwell," the design merges minimalism with architectural structure to create a tranquil, artistic atmosphere. Key design concepts include "Luxury Hidden in Darkness," where dark wood grain contrasts with micro-cement to subtly express luxury, and "Structure as Decoration," where original beams and columns are highlighted to enhance spatial depth. Material experiments include dark wood grain mosaics and seamless micro-cement finishes to create a continuous visual experience. Light and shadow are carefully designed with built-in linear lighting to simulate star trails, preventing dullness in dark spaces. Structural renovations wrap beams into geometric blocks, contrasting with curved ceilings. The design balances dark tones with white spaces and stone accents to prevent heaviness. Material compatibility and structural limitations were addressed with elastic joints and "wrap-around designs" for low beams and pipes. The project prioritizes sustainability with FSC-certified wood, low VOC microcement, recycled materials, and energy-saving features such as high-insulation windows and an intelligent dimming system. The minimalist design ensures long-term durability and reduces the need for future renovations.
