This project for the Belmont Outdoor Education Centre in Scotland embodies a tripartite design philosophy centered on environmental pedagogy, ecological responsiveness, and sustainable practice.

The design strategically dissolves conventional boundaries between interior and exterior spaces by replacing traditional corridors with external circulation paths. This intentional blurring encourages youth engagement with the natural environment while creating a counterpoint to digital immersion. Teaching spaces are conceptualized as a fluid continuum between sheltered and open-air learning environments, connected through a thoughtfully articulated network of elevated pathways.

Technical solutions respond directly to site conditions and environmental challenges. The primary structure is elevated 900mm above grade to mitigate the region's significant ground moisture issues. Integrated green roof systems simultaneously reduce rainfall erosion, enhance thermal performance, and create additional programmable space. A comprehensive rainwater harvesting system completes the environmental strategy, transforming precipitation from a challenge into a resource.

Through these integrated approaches, the Centre functions as both an architectural response to place and a pedagogical tool that embodies the environmental principles it seeks to teach.
