Located in the Tainan Guiren High-Speed Rail District, a rapidly developing urban node that still preserves distant views of Greater and Lesser Gangshan, the project stands at the intersection of city growth and natural landscape. From the thirteenth-floor site, the designers perceived not merely scenery, but a timeline where urban expansion and nature quietly overlap. The concept “Reflections Within” emerged in response to the residents’ desire for inner stability amid a fast-paced lifestyle. Guided by the principle of “following nature and removing excess,” the design deliberately steps back from visual dominance. Rather than asserting form, it employs restraint, blank space, and quiet proportions to invite mountain views, natural light, and stillness indoors, transforming the residence into a contemplative retreat where emotions may settle peacefully.

The most distinctive feature lies in its bold application of traditional craftsmanship within a contemporary high-rise residence. As Gangshan District remains quietly visible beyond the windows and light shifts across the interior throughout the day, the walls gradually absorb warmth and depth. Unlike conventional modern system cabinetry or lightweight interior finishes, the design introduces centuries-old mortise-and-tenon joinery into a thirteenth-floor residential setting, allowing structural logic itself to become part of the spatial order. The inherent flexibility of mortise-and-tenon construction not only responds to the structural stability required in the high-rise building, but also establishes a restrained yet powerful rhythm where different materials intersect. Within the space, the hand-applied textures of Italian plaster, the structural expression of joinery nodes, and the raw qualities of metal and wood together compose a low-volume aesthetic.

As residents move, pause, and contemplate their collections, life is no longer surrounded by ornamentation; instead, it returns to a personal rhythm shaped by light and quiet, allowing everyday moments to naturally grow into stories.
