Hutong & Vastness is an exclusive immersive digital artwork created for the first anniversary of China Overseas Daji Hutong in Beijing. Rooted in the unique historical context of ancient Beijing hutongs and the ongoing urban renewal wave, this piece adopts cutting-edge generative digital art as its core design language. Abandoning rigid technological presentation, it delicately captures the soft, healing and inward-growing power hidden in the renewal and evolution of old urban alleyways. Centered on a warm and serene colossal elephant that serves as the spiritual core of the whole work, its flowing dynamic digital eyes and soft fluffy pink fur vividly interpret the dual temperament of the city: the profound historical heritage accumulated over thousands of years, as well as the light and vigorous vitality brought by modern urban innovation. Under the gentle shelter of the giant elephant, lively macaques, cozy wild cats, fresh rain frogs and diverse native plants live in harmonious interdependence. The artwork blurs the boundary between real alley scenes and virtual fantasy landscapes, building a magical digital rainforest where reality and virtuality are perfectly integrated and all creatures live in peace. More than a stunning visual spectacle combining innovative digital aesthetics and new art materials, this creation builds a bridge connecting traditional hutong culture and futuristic digital technology. It also acts as a sincere manifesto for future urban space. Time-honored inclusive hutongs never reject new changes and modern trends. Tradition and modernity, history and technology coexist peacefully here, offering a warm harbor and spiritual home for every unique life force in the evolving city.
