About The Entry

There are currently 50 million Hakka people in over 80 countries in the world, mainly in Taiwan, China, and Southeast Asia. Hakka people first migrated to Taiwan in the 17th century, and over four centuries, the Hakka population has grown to around 4.66 million, making it Taiwan’s second largest ethnic group at 19.8% of total population.

The 2023 Hakka Expo Taiwan Pavilion is coordinated by TDRI. It is the first Hakka-themed international expo. TDRI works with 14 cities and municipalities, and 11 design teams, for the planning of the Expo, presenting the richness and new aesthetics of Hakka culture with an emphasis on future prospects and cultural creativity.

Titled “Roots and Prosperity – Better with Hakka,” the Expo presents three themes of Adapting Taiwan, Enriching Taiwan, and Taiwan, a Shared Treasure, to show Hakka people’s hard work and changes in different periods of time, and promote the value of Hakka culture, constructing a vision of cultural sustainability.
